September 7th
Class Orientation

 

Day Chairs:  Debbie McMahon

Venue:  McLean County Arts Center

September 21st & 22nd
Opening Retreat


Day Chairs:  Brandi Peterson & Facilitators
Venue: Timber Pointe Outdoor Center (Lake Bloomington)

This day focuses on getting to know your fellow classmates and encompasses a variety of team-building activities and presentations. 

 

October 6th

Developing the Prairie I (Ag Day)


Day Chairs:  Don Meyer, Linda Olson, Steve Schwoerer, Amy Overmier & Christina Schulz

Venue:  McLean County Farm Bureau Building/Rural McLean County Sites

 

Leadership will focus on the area “out in the county” of McLean.  A bus will transport the touring class as they transition from urban to rural—exploring agrarian and environmental stewardship issues.  Class members may have the opportunity to tour an agribusiness and operate farm equipment.  Please dress accordingly.

 

October 20th

Encounter on the Prairie

 

Day Chairs:  Wade Harrison, Willie Feagin & Larry McClellan

Venue:  Downtown Bloomington & Normal

 

Today we’ll get a basic understanding of our county’s past to better appreciate the present and to prepare for the future.  And the future for McLean County includes dramatic changes to the downtowns of both Bloomington and Normal.  Come prepared to explore—this day may include walking tours so please dress appropriately.

November 3rd
Contrasts in McLean County

 

Day Chairs:  Brandi Peterson, Cathy Waltz

Venue:  Bloomington Police Department, McLean County Jail, & McLean County Juvenile Detention Center

 

Today will be devoted to studying where poverty, gangs and violence fit in a community that considers itself a center for the arts.  This day will provide an insight as to how our community handles and processes individuals that are on trial in McLean County.

 


 

November 17th

The Prairie on the Other Side

 

Day Chairs:  Evelyn Young & Andrea Raycraft, Todd Vincent & Amy Hamilton

Venue:  Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington/Normal


This day will focus on the social services that are available in McLean County, how they are accessed by their constituents, and where there are gaps between need and availability.

 

December 1st
The Changing Face of McLean County

 

Day Chairs: Chandra Shekara

Venue:  Moses Montefiore Temple

 

Our community is an evolving entity, like a kaleidoscope with ever-changing colors and designs.  We will spend the day focusing on the dynamic population and the differences that define our uniqueness as a community.

December 15th
Developing the Prairie II

 

Day Chairs:  Pamela Reece, Wayne Aldrich, Becky O’Neal & Shandra Coffer

Venue:  The Challenger Learning Center

 

Planning for the future will be the focus of this day. We will look at issues and challenges that emerge from growth and take a look at comprehensive plans for McLean County.  This day will feature presentations from the Economic Development Council and the Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as a Challenger Mission.

 

January 5th
Caring and Curing on the Prairie

 

Day Chair:  Dietra Kulicke, Pat O’Dell & Karen Rettick

Venue:  Carle Clinic

 

This day will focus on health care in McLean County and how the health facilities in Bloomington-Normal serve an ever-changing client base.

 

February 2nd
Developing the Prairie III

 

Day Chairs:  Barb Mincy & Elizabeth Binning & Anthony Peterson

Venue:  TBD

 

A day dedicated to the businesses – both small and large – located in McLean County and understanding all that goes into doing business here.  This day will feature a presentation on Business Ethics from Hon. Judge Knecht and also one on the Chamber and its value and functions (with Board Members and Staff).


 

February 14th
Leadership in Action

 

Day Chairs:  Mike O’Grady, Krista Cardona & Mark Otto

Venue:  By Charter, Illinois State Capitol

 

The class begins with a bus ride to Springfield.  Class members will meet with state officials and have the chance to see our state government in action.  Local and national issues will be discussed.  There will be opportunities to meet with various government officials—business attire is recommended.

 

March 2nd
Education on the Prairie

 

Day Chair:  Sharon Becker & Susan Bandy

Venue:  University of Illinois Extension; Various Schools

 

This day begins with a bell—a school bell that is!  Class members will serve as “Principal for a Day” in area schools and discuss the status and impact of education in our county.

 

March 16th
Task Force Presentations

 

Day Chairs:  Roger Guzman & Mentors

Venue:  Eastland Suites

 

Project presentations will be presented to the public in the morning.  The afternoon will include a session on effective Board membership, and a time to debrief the team projects and to reflect on the complete Leadership Experience.

 

March 30th

Alumni Breakfast/Class Graduation

Day Chairs:  Chair Elect/Debbie McMahon

Venue:  Eastland Suites

LMC Alumni Leadership Breakfast in the morning; an optional social program will be offered in the late-morning/early-afternoon.  The Commencement Celebration will be in the evening with dinner for class celebrants and well wishers.
